When my son was 5 or 6, he used to really enjoy PS2 games like Rage Racer, F1 and CART World Series. I think the real F1 cars have gone through a bunch of changes since 2000, but they require a very strong neck to handle the braking capabilities and the change of direction agility, compared with almost any other race cars. If this is really the way an F1 car drives, I have a lot more respect for those drivers! * on the other hand, if you turn all the assists off I can't keep it on the track at more than 20 mph.

On that note, does anyone have experience with a USB driver that does this well? I know there are a few, but I've never used any of them with a game controller. I suppose I could do the same thing with CMR, if such a thing works. I don't know if it has built-in wheel support or whether I have to fiddle with configuring the wheel as a keyboard emulator. I downloaded SuperTuxKart yesterday, but after I'd put the wheel away. On the rare occasions that he gets to sit at a real arcade machine, he likes games like California Cruisin' and similar games, where you can see the track/road/course pretty far ahead of you.Ĭro-Mag would have been great, except that I've just been informed by PangaeaSoft that the OS X version doesn't support wheels like the OS 9 version did. I was hoping for something with more of a cartoony/game feel to it, as opposed to a true-to-the-metal simulator.
Yeah, I played F1CS2K again last night, and it might be within his abilities with all the assists turned on like you suggest.* It worked ok even without the wheel using the keyboard. If you configure the settings to enable assisted acceleration, braking, steering, etc., your son might have some fun with that game. I recently dusted off F1 CS 2000, and ran it on my 2009 era Mac Mini and a Cinema Display.
